What Homeowners Say About DrainCom

Drain Repair & Replacement Services We Provide

We provide the complete range of drain and sewer repair services for residential and commercial properties. Every job starts with a diagnosis. We do not quote work we have not inspected.

Exterior basement waterproofing services including excavation, membrane application, and drainage system installation

Drain Camera Inspection

Where we start. A waterproof camera goes down the line so we see the real problem :- root intrusion, a cracked joint, a collapsed section , instead of guessing. You see it too. It tells us the pipe material, the blockage location, and whether you need a clean, a repair, or a replacement.

Sewer & Drain Line Repair

We fix damaged drain and sewer lines: cracked pipe, leaking joints, offset connections, root-blocked laterals. We carry commercial-grade equipment and stock our trucks to handle most repairs on the first visit.

Trenchless Pipe Repair & Replacement

Replace a broken line without tearing up your yard. We split the old pipe and pull a new one through the same path ,two small access holes instead of a full excavation. Roughly half the cost of traditional dig-up replacement, and your landscaping stays intact. (More: Trenchless Pipe Repair & Replacement)

Drain Excavation & Replacement

When a drain is too far gone or trenchless isn’t an option, we dig, replace, and restore. Collapsed clay tile, crushed pipe, or a line root-bound solid gets swapped for new pipe laid to proper fall, then backfilled and tamped back to grade.

High-Pressure Water Jetting & Drain Snaking

A drain snake breaks through clogs; high-pressure water jetting scours the pipe wall clean of grease, soil, and root hair. Both restore flow  and we camera the line after to confirm the pipe underneath is sound, not just clear.

Root Intrusion Removal & Sectional Repair

Tree roots find pipe joints and grow in until the line blocks solid. We cut and clear the roots, then repair the damaged section so they can’t get back in; without replacing the whole run.

Drain Repair & Replacement Cost

Cost depends on the problem, the method, how deep the line sits, and how easy it is to reach. Clearing a blockage is a short job. Replacing a collapsed sewer lateral is a full-day excavation. A camera inspection up front tells us  and you  exactly what’s needed.

Service Price Range (CAD) Notes
Drain camera inspection $250 to $500 Often credited toward the repair
Drain snaking / auger $300 to $600 Single blockage, accessible cleanout
High-pressure water jetting $500 to $900 Grease/root buildup, full pipe-wall clean
Root intrusion removal $400 to $900 Plus sectional repair if pipe is damaged
Sectional drain repair $1,200 to $3,000 Repair the damaged length only
Trenchless pipe replacement $4,000 to $9,000 ~Half the cost of full excavation
Drain excavation & replacement Quoted on inspection Depth, length, and access dependent

All prices are approximate and based on standard residential conditions. Written quotes are provided after a free inspection. We do not quote drain repair over the phone or from photos the pipe condition is only confirmed by camera or excavation.

Pricing note: The most common reason a drain quote comes in higher than expected is a camera revealing the pipe is collapsed or root-bound, not simply clogged. Cleaning won’t hold a broken line  it needs sectional repair or replacement. We confirm the pipe’s condition on the inspection and quote the right scope upfront.

What Is Drain Repair (and How Is It Different from Drain Cleaning)?

Drain repair fixes or replaces a damaged drain or sewer pipe :- a crack, a collapse, an offset joint, or root-broken section . so the line works and stays sealed. Drain cleaning only clears what’s blocking the inside. Cleaning solves a clog; repair solves a broken pipe.

It matters because the same symptom ; a slow or backed-up drain  can mean either one. A camera inspection tells them apart. Snaking a line that’s actually collapsed just buys a few weeks before it backs up again. (Need a clean, not a repair? See Drain Cleaning.)

Signs You Need Drain Repair or Replacement

Some signs mean a simple clog. Others mean the pipe itself has failed. Here’s what tells us it’s repair territory, not just cleaning.

If you’ve got any of these, the line needs a camera, not another snaking. We’ll show you what’s actually going on.

What Causes Drains to Fail in the GTA?

Common in the region’s older housing stock, where original clay-tile and cast-iron drains are at the end of their life. The cause decides the fix.

If your basement backs up during every big storm and the home is older, the drain or sewer line is the likely cause. Snaking the surface won’t fix a pipe that’s broken underground.

Drain Repair vs. Replacement vs. Trenchless

Whether we repair, replace, or go trenchless depends on the pipe’s condition, how much of it has failed, and how easy it is to reach. Here’s how we decide.

Repair is the right call when

The damage is one section a cracked length, a single offset joint, light root intrusion and the rest of the line is sound on camera. We fix the bad part and leave the good pipe alone.

Replacement is the right call when

The line is collapsed, badly corroded, root-bound end to end, or old clay tile past saving. A patch won't hold; the run needs new pipe.

Trenchless is the right call when

the line needs replacing but the yard, driveway, or landscaping shouldn't be torn up. We split the old pipe and pull a new one through two access holes, no full trench, about half the cost of dig-up replacement.

We make the call on the free inspection. We don’t sell a full replacement when a sectional repair will do, and we don’t snake a broken pipe and call it fixed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cleaning clears what’s blocking the pipe  grease, debris, roots. Repair fixes the pipe itself when it’s cracked, collapsed, or broken. The same slow drain can be either, so we run a drain camera first to tell them apart.

A clog clears after snaking and stays clear. A broken pipe backs up again and again, backs up across several fixtures at once, or shows a wet patch on the lawn over the line. A drain camera inspection confirms which  you see inside the pipe on screen.

Replacing a broken underground pipe without digging up the yard. We make two small access holes, split the old pipe, and pull a new one through the same path. About half the cost of full excavation, your lawn and driveway stay intact, and most jobs finish in a day.

Roots seek water, and they find it at pipe joints and the gaps in old clay tile  growing in until the line blocks solid. It’s the top cause of drain failure in older GTA neighbourhoods with mature trees. We cut the roots out and repair the section so they can’t return.

Often, yes. Trenchless and sectional repair both avoid a full trench. We only excavate when the line is collapsed or trenchless isn’t possible  and even then, we dig only where needed and restore the surface after.

It can be. Many older Toronto homes share a combined storm and sanitary sewer, so heavy rain overloads the line and pushes water back into the basement. A backwater valve plus a camera inspection of your lateral shows the cause and the fix  and the work may qualify for a city rebate.

You own the lateral  the six-inch line from your home to the property line. The city maintains the sewer main in the street. If the blockage or break is on your lateral, the repair is yours, and that’s what we handle.

Yes , a free, no-obligation inspection and written estimate across Toronto and the GTA. We don’t quote over the phone, because we confirm whether a pipe is clogged or broken by inspecting it in person, usually with a drain camera.

Check the service area list on this page for your city. We cover communities across the GTA. Call 905-238-6800 or 416-989-5757, or submit the contact form at draincom.ca. We confirm same-week availability for most service areas.
