How DrainCom collects, uses and protects your personal information when you book basement waterproofing, drain or plumbing service in Toronto and the GTA.
Effective date: September 30, 2026
When you let us into your home, you trust us with more than your basement. You share your name, your address, photos of your foundation, sometimes your rebate paperwork. We take that seriously.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information DrainCom Basement Waterproofing (“DrainCom”, “we”, “us”) collects, why we collect it, and how we protect it. It covers our website at draincom.ca, phone calls to our offices, service visits, estimates, and any other way you deal with us.
We serve homeowners, landlords and businesses across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington and surrounding communities. We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its 10 fair information principles.
The short version? We collect only what we need to fix your problem, book your visit and help you claim city rebates. We don’t sell your information. Ever.
We collect personal information in three ways: you give it to us, we gather it while doing the job, or your browser sends it when you visit our site.
| Type | Examples | When we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Contact details | Name, phone number, email, service address | Quote requests, calls, online forms, booking |
| Property and job details | Type of problem (wet basement, clogged drain, sump pump failure), home age, access notes, city or region | Phone intake, free inspection, estimate |
| Inspection records | Photos, video camera drain inspection footage, infrared moisture readings, written notes | During the on-site inspection or repair |
| Rebate and permit information | Property ownership details, municipal account info, invoices, permit numbers, condo board approval | When you ask us to help with City of Toronto, Peel, Halton or other flood protection rebates |
| Payment information | Billing name and address, payment method, transaction records | When you pay a deposit or invoice |
| Reviews and feedback | Comments, ratings, survey replies | After the job, if you choose to share them |
| Website and device data | IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring site, approximate location | Automatically, through cookies and analytics |
| Call records | Phone number, call time, call recordings (only where we tell you first) | When you call our offices |
We don’t knowingly collect sensitive information like health records or government ID numbers. If a rebate program asks for something beyond the list above, we’ll explain why before we ask. Card numbers are handled by our payment processor, not stored on our own systems.
We use your information to do the work you asked for, and a little bit of the paperwork that comes with it. Specifically, we use it to:
Answer your call or form and book a free inspection or estimate
Send a technician to your address with the right equipment on the truck
Diagnose leaks, foundation cracks, drain blockages or sewer line issues and write up your quote
Complete the work, issue invoices and process payments
Apply for plumbing permits and fill out flood protection rebate forms on your behalf
Honour warranty claims, including our transferable waterproofing warranty
Follow up on your job, answer questions and fix anything that isn’t right
Improve our website, services and scheduling
Meet our legal, tax, insurance and licensing obligations
By booking with us, you consent to us using your information for the purposes above. Where the use is less obvious, we’ll ask first. You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contract limits. We’ll tell you if pulling consent means we can’t finish a job or file a rebate.
We follow Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We’ll only send promotional emails or texts, like seasonal sump pump check reminders, if you’ve agreed to get them or if we have an existing business relationship with you. Every message has a working unsubscribe link. Job-related messages, like appointment confirmations and invoices, aren’t marketing, so you’ll still get those.
Like most websites, draincom.ca uses cookies. They’re small text files that help the site work and tell us which pages homeowners find useful.
| Cookie type | What it does | Example tools |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Keeps forms and pages working | Website platform, Google reCAPTCHA spam protection on forms |
| Analytics | Shows us which pages people visit and how they found us | Google Analytics (GA4), Google Tag Manager |
| Advertising | Measures ad results and shows our ads to past visitors | Google Ads |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some forms may act up. To opt out of Google Analytics, you can use Google’s browser add-on. To limit ad personalization, visit Google’s Ad Settings or the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada’s AdChoices page.
These tools may process data on servers outside Canada. See the next section for how we handle that.
We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only when the job calls for it:
Municipalities and regions. The City of Toronto, Peel Region, Halton Region and other GTA municipalities, when we file permits or flood protection rebate applications for you.
Service providers. Our payment processor, scheduling and CRM software, email provider, website host and accounting firm. They can use your data only to serve us.
Suppliers and subcontractors. Only the address and job details needed to deliver materials or complete a specific task.
Insurers. If you ask us to support a basement flooding claim, or if our own insurer needs job records.
Legal reasons. When the law, a court order or a regulator requires it, or to protect people or property.
Business transfer. If DrainCom is sold or merges, your information may move to the new owner under the same protections.
We never post your address, invoice details or full name in replies to online reviews.
Some of our service providers store data outside Canada, often in the United States. When that happens, your information is subject to that country’s laws and may be accessed by its authorities. We use contracts to hold those providers to protection standards comparable to ours.
We keep job and invoice records for as long as we need them for warranty, tax and legal reasons. Canada Revenue Agency rules require us to keep business records for at least six years. Waterproofing records may be kept for the full term of your warranty, since the warranty can transfer to a future owner of your home. When we no longer need information, we securely delete or shred it.
We guard your information like we guard a basement: several layers, not one.
Password-protected systems with access limited to staff who need it
Encrypted (HTTPS) website forms
Locked storage for paper records at our offices
Staff training on handling customer information
Service providers bound by confidentiality terms
No system is 100% secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we’ll notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as PIPEDA requires.
It’s your information. Under PIPEDA, you can:
See it. Ask what personal information we hold about you and how we’ve used it.
Fix it. Ask us to correct anything that’s wrong or out of date.
Withdraw consent. Stop us using your information for marketing or other optional purposes.
Unsubscribe. Opt out of promotional emails and texts at any time.
Complain. Raise a concern with us, and if we can’t settle it, with the regulator.
To make a request, email our Privacy Officer at info@draincom.ca. We’ll reply within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so we don’t hand your records to the wrong person. There’s no charge for most requests.
Not happy with our answer? You can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at 1-800-282-1376.
Our services are for property owners, tenants and businesses. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has sent us their details, contact us and we’ll delete them.
Our pages link to city rebate programs, HomeStars, Google and other sites. Their privacy practices are their own, so check their policies before sharing information there.
We may update this policy as our services, tools or the law change. The effective date at the top shows the latest version. For big changes, we’ll post a notice on our website.
Questions, requests or concerns? Reach out. A real person will get back to you.
