What Is a Weeping Tile and How Does It Work?

A weeping tile is a perforated drainage pipe installed around the footing of your foundation that collects groundwater and carries it away to a sump pit or storm drain. The holes let water in; the slope carries it off. It’s the single most important part of keeping a basement dry.

A working system has three parts: perforated pipe at the footing, a layer of clean drainage stone around it, and a connection that discharges the water somewhere safe. Most modern GTA homes have weeping tile inside under the slab and outside at the footing.
